Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley started in 1988 with a group of volunteers dedicated to the idea of serving families by partnering to build housing. St. Vrain Habitat has built 115 homes in the St. Vrain and Estes Valleys and repaired another 56 homes. Working for Habitat allows employees to see a tangible result - a new or repaired home, that transforms the lives of families and communities.

“Habitat is one of the few non-profits that rises above the charity giver/victim receiver model and truly promotes social justice and partnership. The folks on our team are remarkable human beings.”

~ Krystal Winship-Erazo (Neighborhood Revitalization Manager)

St. Vrain Habitat builds decent and affordable housing. To accomplish this, Habitat operates in several business areas including a: construction business, retail store, mortgage lender, community developer, and non-profit. Working for Habitat allows employees to learn about vastly different business models, helping develop their skills and experience. St. Vrain Habitat provides opportunities for personal and professional development through classes, staff meetings, conferences, and online training. Employees are invited to participate in Global Village (international) building trips or virtual international engagement opportunities.

“I appreciate the professional development opportunities and ways to continue expanding/ informing my knowledge about the world and people.”

~ Hannah Williams
(Marketing and Communications Manager)

St. Vrain Habitat employs roughly 30 people, which makes it large enough for individuals to specialize in their particular area, but small enough to know everyone on a first name basis. Our affiliate is connected to the wider Habitat for Humanity network which works in all 50 states and 70 countries, employing thousands around the globe. Habitat for Humanity was ranked the #1 non-profit to work for on Indeed in 2021.

“I like that we have different motivations for being part of Habitat (social justice, faith, etc.) but we agree on the essentials – helping individuals and families move from surviving to thriving.”

~ Rebecca Shannon (Outreach Manager)

Located in Longmont, Colorado, St. Vrain Habitat is a beautiful place to live and work. With panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains, Longmont has something for everyone with local festivals, great restaurants, outdoor activities, local breweries, good school options, and proximity to the mountains, Boulder and Denver.

“Colorado’s free open spaces make Longmont a fun place to live and explore. It’s easy to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.”

~ Rachel Morand (AmeriCorps Member)

St. Vrain Habitat is a growing organization that seeks innovative solutions to affordable housing. We remain committed to our core mission of building affordable housing, and we are constantly growing and looking for new opportunities. St. Vrain Habitat was recognized as one of 84 distinguished affiliates out of 1100 to receive a monetary gift from Mackenzie Scott in 2022. The Longmont affiliate is one of 10 Habitat affiliates in the country in the Neighborhood Revitalization Cohort. Our Habitat has donated more than $1.4 million to overseas partners, ranking number 3 in giving in the nation for an office of its size.

“There is a high expectation of success. This is hard for me to quantify because it’s not overt and demanding, but this is a successful affiliate. We are always pushing new boundaries. It’s hard to stay complacent and just do things the ‘same old Habitat way.’ This isn’t a mandate or even an expectation; it’s just a byproduct of working here. Everyone wants to do the most that they can, every day, in every aspect of our work. This creates a challenging but not overwhelming work environment that can keep everyone engaged.”

~ Stephen Stanek Scott (Director of Construction)

St. Vrain Habitat is committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Departments work to support one another through regular cross-departmental meetings and regular all-staff meetings. Habitat is committed to becoming a non-profit that includes all voices and all hands in the service of others.

“It is inspiring to work with like-minded passionate people from many backgrounds and diverse skill sets all genuinely building toward our organization-wide goals.”

~ Karen Kraai (Financial Controller)
